Photographers as security risks

The Guardian’s James Sturcke fails to get arrested while taking photographs in London.

I have a new image up on the stills project taken on my recent trip to the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, England.

There were machines everywhere

Just back from the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, England. It was my first time there and I was very impressed. I filled a 1gb card with shots so hope that there are a few keepers among them though I am very hung over after a dinner party last night. We will have to wait and see how many of them are in focus!

Yes, but what is it?

I feel that this image demands an explanation if only because, as it stands, it gives virtually no clue as to what it actually is. It could be a photograph of a photograph, a photograph of a montage of others or, perhaps, multiple exposures on film of many different subjects. So, here is the image completely unadulterated from the single digital raw camera exposure.

It’s a rather trendy semi-translucent information display at the National Space Centre in Leicester, England. Three screens in close proximity which allow light to pass directly through them and which afford the visitor partial views of whatever is going on behind. All images seem to merge onto the already populated skin of the display resulting in a live, and likely unique, accidental montage.

So now you know.

Stills – a collaborative photoblog

I have been invited by Colin to take part in the Stills project, a collaborative photoblog which seeks to provide a comment/critique platform for its members. This being the web the platform has the added bonus of providing casual visitors the opportunity to view submitted photographs and read the posted commentary and comments.

A visitors FAQ is available here and the members guidance is available here.

A general intention of the group is to provide its members with a similar (however virtual) arrangement to that described in this article by Paul Butzi in which he discusses the Monday Night Group and how it has helped its members improve their photography and get over those dry spells.

I look forward to contributing to both the photographs and the commentary on the site.

I have yet to make up my mind about what to post first but I suspect the first couple of images will be ones that are already available here. There are indeed a couple that I would like some feedback on.

As for adding my own comments I think I’ll start from a clean slate and begin with the photographs posted by members from now onwards

It all sounds like a great deal of fun.
